Rejoinder: When Criticism Becomes Self-Serving
Our attention has been drawn to a recent statement credited to Mr. Tade Oshaloto in which he described the agitation and advocacy of Senator Sunday Karimi as “self-serving.” Such a claim is not only misleading but also betrays a troubling level of ingratitude and personal bias.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Tinubu-Karimi Political Ambassadors consider Mr. Oshaloto’s remarks both unfair and unfortunate.
They are coming from an individual whose past relationship with Senator Karimi reportedly benefited immensely from the goodwill, generosity and support of the very leader he now seeks to disparage.
It is widely known within political circles in Kogi West that Mr. Oshaloto has, at various times, benefited from the senator’s kindness—ranging from financial assistance to opportunities that helped him and others advance their personal pursuits.
It is therefore disappointing that someone who once enjoyed such goodwill would now attempt to rewrite the narrative for narrow personal reasons.
Indeed, the recent outburst by Mr. Oshaloto reveals more about his own disposition than about the character of Senator Karimi.
His comments portray him as a selfish individual who appears more interested in settling personal scores than engaging in constructive political discourse.
When criticism is driven by bitterness rather than facts, it inevitably loses credibility before the court of public opinion.
Senator Karimi’s record in Kogi West remains visible and verifiable. His representation has been marked by consistent advocacy for development, empowerment programmes for youths and women, and interventions that have touched communities across the senatorial district.
These efforts are not hidden; they are realities experienced by the people. Democracy allows individuals to hold and express opinions.
However, such freedom must not be abused to launch character attacks on leaders who have demonstrated commitment to the public good.
Political disagreements should be guided by facts and respect, not by resentment or personal ambition.
Mr. Oshaloto is entitled to his political choices, but he should pursue them without attempting to malign a benefactor whose contributions to the growth and stability of Kogi West are widely acknowledged.
The Tinubu-Karimi Political Ambassadors therefore reaffirm their unwavering support for Senator Sunday Karimi. His dedication to the progress of Kogi West Senatorial District remains evident, and his record of service continues to earn him the trust and admiration of the people.
History will always favour leaders whose actions speak louder than the noise of self-serving critics.
