RMAFC, SMDF and UNDP Embark on a Fiscal Research Tour of Ethiopian Mining Sector
In line with “Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF)” an ongoing UNDP programme in Nigeria, the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is implementing a UNDP research project aimed at minimizing revenue leakages through the operations of Artisanal and Small Scale Miners (ASMs) in the Nigerian mining sector . . . .
The delegation accompanied by officials of the Ethiopian Ministry of Mines proceed to Benishangul-Gumuz State to witness the Ethiopian “Gold ASM Formalization Model” vis-á-vis it’s famous “Gold Purchase Scheme”.
The RMAFC team, accompanied by UNDP Nigeria representatives, was led by Mr Olatokunbo Ajasin, Federal Commissioner – Ondo, Mr Ibrahim B.B. Shettima, Federal Commissioner – Niger and Mr Abdulaziz I. King, Federal Commissioner – Kogi, while the supporting staff were drawn from RMAFC and SMDF. Alhamdu Lillah
The project, titled “Formalization of ASMs as Panacea to Blocking Revenue Losses from the Federation Account” is being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development (MMSD), Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF), Miners Association of Nigeria and UNDP Nigeria.
As part of the project’s plan, RMAFC is currently in Addis Ababa to conduct a study tour of Ethiopian mining sector and in the process visited the African Union (AU) headquarters and held a policy discussion with officials of the African Minerals Development Center (AMDC), a mining policy arm of the AU that also serves as the secretariat of the Africa Mining Vision (AMV). . . .
