Dr. Aiyeku Olufemi Samuel
Global Human Capital & Energy Management

Summit University Offa, Kwara State, is revolutionizing the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Nigeria. Recently, the university secured a research grant from the Royal Academy of Engineering, United Kingdom, worth £98,516.00. This grant is dedicated to the project “Artificial Intelligence for Females in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics” (AI4FS). The AI4FS project aims to promote the application of AI among females in STEM fields, addressing the significant gender gap in these areas.

The university’s involvement in AI is comprehensive and multifaceted. They have established the Kola Balogun College of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Engineering and the College of Innovation and Computing Technology, offering Bachelor’s degree programs in AI and related fields. Additionally, they provide specialized certificate courses through various grants, including AI4FS, Artificial Intelligence for Women in Aquaculture (AI4WA), and Democratisation of Environmental Literacy in Post-Primary Education (DELitE).

The university has also organized events, including the “Artificial Intelligence for Female in STEM Capacity Building Workshop,” and published research papers on cutting-edge applications of AI.

The benefits of Artificial Intelligence in the 21st century are numerous. AI can:

– Enhance productivity and efficiency in various industries
– Improve healthcare outcomes through predictive analytics and personalized medicine
– Increase accessibility and inclusivity in education and employment
– Support environmental sustainability through climate modeling and green technology
– Foster innovation and entrepreneurship through AI-powered startups and incubators

By integrating AI into its curriculum and research, Summit University Offa is equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven world. The university’s commitment to promoting AI education and research, particularly among females in STEM fields, is a significant step towards bridging the gender gap in these areas.

As the future of AI continues to unfold, Summit University Offa is poised to play a leading role in shaping the next generation of AI leaders and innovators in Nigeria.
