Taraba APC Stakeholders Resolve Differences, Set To Unseat PDP in 2027
By Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu – February 25th, 2025.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has taken a decisive step towards rebuilding its strength, as major stakeholders came together on Sunday to resolve their longstanding differences. With renewed determination, the party is now set on a clear path to unseat the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) government in the 2027 general elections.
The groundbreaking meeting, which was hosted by Alhaji Hassan Ardo Jika, the former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, at his residence in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), marked a historic turning point for the party in the state. Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Jika described the gathering as “the most fruitful” the party has had since the bitter fallout following the APC’s 2022 governorship primaries.
Taraba APC had been in turmoil following the internal disputes that arose after the primaries, which had left the party fragmented. According to Jika, the party had been largely silent, failing to effectively challenge the PDP-led government under Governor Agbu Kefas. The internal divisions had paralyzed the party, hindering its ability to present a strong opposition.
However, in a clear demonstration of reconciliation, all key stakeholders of the party at the meeting have now committed to setting aside their differences. If the renewed spirit of cooperation is sustained, the APC is poised to present a united front and offer Taraba voters an alternative government in the 2027 elections.
“I can confirm to you that the APC in Taraba is finally on the right track,” Jika affirmed. “We held a mega meeting this evening with a national official amongst us, and the outcome is quite cheering. All stakeholders have resolved to work together, to forgive one another, and forget old grievances. This is the beginning of a new phase for the party.”
The road to unity within the party has not been without its challenges. According to Jika, internal strife stemming from the divisive 2022 primaries had plagued the APC for months. Despite the best efforts of party leaders, the desired reconciliation seemed elusive until this meeting. While former governorship candidate Senator Emmanuel Bwacha and his associate Yusuf Ahmed were notably absent from the meeting, the gathering still included most of the key figures within the party.
APC spokesperson in Taraba, Mr. Aaron Artimas, echoed this optimism, stating, “This is just one meeting in a series of meetings that have been held in the aftermath of the last primaries. It has been quite challenging, bringing the people together to present a common front, but now we have been able to achieve that.”
The APC stakeholders emphasized that this collective resolve is a significant step toward challenging the status quo in Taraba State. With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the party now appears united and ready to confront the PDP in a more formidable manner than ever before.
As the 2027 election draws closer, APC’s newfound unity could be the key to giving the people of Taraba State a much-needed alternative and a powerful voice in their future governance. With the internal divisions now put to rest, the APC aims to provide a credible and competitive choice for the voters in the coming election. The party’s leaders are confident that their collective efforts will soon bear fruit as they set their sights on ousting the PDP and taking back Taraba State.
