Tax Liabilities: Kano seals Max Air Head office, 2 others

The Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) has taken a decisive step to enforce tax compliance by sealing three companies, including Max Air Limited, Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company, and Northern Rice and Oil Milling Nigeria Ltd, over unpaid tax liabilities. This enforcement action, carried out on Monday, underscores the agency’s commitment to ensuring accountability and boosting the state’s revenue base.
1. Max Air Limited:
Located on Ashton Road, Kano, and owned by Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, an in-law to Engr. Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
Liabilities: Non-payment of taxes from 2012 to 2017.
2. Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company:
Head office situated along Kano-Zaria Road.
Liabilities: Failure to remit N241.2 million in PAYE and withholding taxes for 2021-2022.
3. Northern Rice and Oil Milling Nigeria Ltd:
Located at Gunduwawa Industrial Estate, off Hadejia Road, Kano.
The Director of Debt Management and Enforcement, Ibrahim Abdullahi, stated that the enforcement followed several unheeded correspondences and a court order. The sealed companies are required to settle their outstanding debts before resuming operations.
He emphasized that this measure aims to Compel compliance from tax defaulters. Strengthen the revenue base of Kano State.
This action sends a strong message to businesses in Kano about the importance of fulfilling tax obligations promptly. The agency has vowed to continue such exercises to ensure all defaulters are held accountable, contributing to the state’s development.
The companies involved have yet to issue official statements regarding the closures.
