The Elected Elite of Kogi State: Breaking the Cycle of Inaccessibility
By Baiye Sunday Folorunsho
As we prepare to elect our Local Government Chairmen and Councillors in Kogi State, we must remember the importance of accountability and accessibility in our leaders. We rally behind our chosen candidates, pouring our hearts and souls into their campaigns, expecting a certain level of accountability and accessibility once they’re elected.
However, a disturbing trend has emerged in our state: some politicians, once in office, become unreachable and unresponsive to the very people who put them there. This attitude is not only frustrating but also undemocratic. It’s a betrayal of the trust placed in them by their constituents.
The elected elite of Kogi State must remember that they serve the people, not the other way around. We must demand better. We must hold our leaders accountable for their actions and accessibility. Let us make it clear that inaccessibility will no longer be tolerated.
To our aspiring Chairmen and Councillors, we say: do not forget the hands that will lift you to power. Remain humble, responsive, and accessible. Remember, you are servants of the people, not untouchable elites.
Together, let us break this cycle of inaccessibility and build a more inclusive, accountable, and truly representative local government in Kogi State. Let us elect leaders who will prioritize the people’s needs, not their personal interests.
Let us build a Kogi State where our leaders are truly of the people, by the people, and for the people.
