THE OVATIONAL EXIT AND TRIUMPHANT HOMECOMING OF PROF. SALISU OGBO USMAN
…A Journey of Impact, Honour and Return
Some departures are quiet. Others echo with gratitude, pride and emotion. The exit of Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman from Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, belonged to the latter.
It was not merely a farewell; it was an ovation.
As he took his leave, cheers filled the air, hands were raised in admiration and voices blended in celebration of a leader whose tenure transformed an institution and inspired its people. Staff, students, and well-wishers gathered in large numbers, creating a moment charged with mixed feelings: joy for his well-deserved elevation and sadness at seeing a visionary administrator move on. Many wished he could stay longer, yet all understood that excellence naturally attracts greater responsibility.
His new appointment was not accidental; it was an assignment earned through dedication, performance, and results. Having distinguished himself at Kogi State Polytechnic, he was called upon to bring stability, direction and renewed energy to the university system; the very academic environment where his professional journey first began.
And so, his return to Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, became more than an assumption of office. It became a homecoming.
The university community erupted in celebration as Professor Ogbo arrived as the 6th Vice Chancellor. The atmosphere was electric. Students, staff, community members, and supporters from across Kogi State and beyond gathered in unity, demonstrating rare enthusiasm and collective pride. The reception was not staged; it was spontaneous; a reflection of trust, expectation and genuine affection.
Formerly known as Kogi State University, the institution has been shaped by distinguished leaders: Professor Simon Okwute, Professor Francis Idachaba, Professor Hassan Isah, Professor Mohammed Sanni Abdulkadir, and Professor Marietu Tenuche. Now, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo joins this lineage at a time when purposeful leadership is most needed.
Why the excitement? The answer lies in his record.
At Kogi State Polytechnic, Prof. Usman earned a reputation as a builder; not only of structures but of systems, confidence, and institutional pride. Projects flourished, reforms took root and hope returned to the academic environment. His leadership demonstrated that administration, when guided by vision and integrity can truly change lives.
Yet this story is also deeply personal. Before leading the Polytechnic, Prof. Usman had served Prince Abubakar Audu University in several key roles such as Head of the Department of Political Science, Chairman of the University E-Examination Committee, Dean of Student Affairs, and Director of Consultancy Services amongst others. His return therefore symbolizes continuity: a son of the institution coming back to serve at its highest level.
His appointment sends a powerful message; that commitment, hard work and service never go unnoticed.
Popularly known as “Mr. Project,” Prof. Usman steps into office with the expectations of a community eager for progress and stability. Early interactions with faculties and staff already reveal a leader who listens, connects, and leads with purpose. His approach reflects humility, inclusiveness, and a determination to translate ideas into visible outcomes.
The ovational exit from Kogi State Polytechnic and the triumphant welcome at Prince Abubakar Audu University together tell one compelling story: leadership built on impact earns loyalty and service rooted in excellence creates lasting legacy.
As he begins this new chapter, the university community looks ahead with renewed hope; confident that the same energy, vision, and commitment that inspired one institution will now elevate another.
The journey continues and the expectations are high but so is the belief that greater achievements lie ahead.
We wish the Vice-Chancellor a successful, impactful, and historic tenure.
