December 24, 2025.

Kano—The Kano State House of Assembly has been thrown into mourning following the death of two serving members, Aminu Sa’adu and Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented Ungoggo and Kano Municipal Local Government Areas respectively.

Confirmation of the development came on Wednesday via a post on the verified social media handle of Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Spokesman to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who expressed the state government’s grief over the loss and extended condolences to the families, colleagues, and constituents of the deceased lawmakers.

According to information gathered, Aminu Sa’adu fell ill shortly after arriving at the Assembly complex earlier in the day. He was said to have been immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he was later pronounced dead. A medical source, Dr. Usman Yahaya Kansila, confirmed the death.

Sources within the Assembly also confirmed the passing of Sarki Aliyu Daneji, the lawmaker representing Kano Municipal Local Government Area, marking a double tragedy for the legislature and the state at large.
The late Aminu Sa’adu is expected to be buried at about 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, in accordance with Islamic rites, family sources said.

The deaths have sparked an outpouring of tributes from fellow lawmakers, government officials, and residents of the affected constituencies, who described the deceased as dedicated public servants committed to grassroots representation and legislative development.
As at press time, the Kano State House of Assembly was expected to announce official arrangements and further details, including plans to honour the memories of the departed lawmakers.
