A chieftain of the main opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) a former candidate of the party in the just concluded House of Assembly Election in Kogi State, Pastor Femi Obalemo FCA, has said following the approval of Kogi State University, Kabba by the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC), the host community stands to benefits immensely because economic situation of the area will drastically change for better.

He further explored some of the benefits that a university can bring to a community.

1. Economic Benefits:
One of the primary benefits of a university is the economic impact it can have on the local community. When a university is established, it can create jobs both directly and indirectly. Directly, a university will require staff for administrative and academic purposes, and indirectly, it will create a demand for services such as housing, transportation, and food. As a result, the establishment of a university can lead to the creation of new businesses, increased tax revenue for the community and increased economic stability.

2. Innovation and Research:
Another major benefit of a university is the potential for innovation and research. Universities often have research centers, laboratories and departments where faculty and students can conduct research on a variety of topics. This research can lead to new discoveries and advancements in technology, medicine, engineering, and many other fields. Furthermore, the knowledge and expertise generated by a university can support local businesses and industries, leading to further innovation and economic growth.

3. Cultural Development:
A university can also bring cultural development to a community. Universities often host events such as lectures, concerts, and art exhibits that are open to the public. These events can attract people from outside the community, leading to increased tourism and exposure. Additionally, universities can promote cultural awareness and understanding through their academic programs, which can promote diversity and tolerance within the community.
Community Development:
Finally, a university can bring about

4. community development. Universities often have programs and services that are aimed at helping the local community. For instance, they may offer adult education courses, health clinics, and community outreach programs. These services can help to improve the quality of life for members of the local community, particularly those who may not have access to these resources otherwise.

In conclusion, he said the siting of a university can bring about many benefits to the community it is situated in. From economic growth and innovation to cultural and community development, universities play a vital role in creating thriving and vibrant communities.

Therefore, the establishment of the university in Okun land and Kabba should be seen as an investment in the future of the community, one that can bring about long-lasting benefits for generations to come.

He therefore appreciates His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello, the Committee in charge and everyone who has contributed in one way or the other to make the approval possible, while assuring the Governor that the community will not take this opportunity for granted by ensuring that the community will protect the treasure.
