ABUJA — The Executive Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Area, Hon. Joshua Dare Monday has pledged to intensify efforts in securing lives and property in the council, saying the recognition will motivate him to do more for his people.
Hon. Monday made the pledge on Wednesday 19th August 2026, at the 16th Public Lecture and Induction into the Good Governance Hall of Fame organized by Democracy Newsline Newspaper at the Banquet Hall, National Merit House, Abuja, where he received a Prestigious Award as the Best performing Executive Chairman on security in Kogi State.
Dedicating the award to His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Chairman said the Governor’s commitment to security and support for local government administration made the achievement possible.
“I dedicate this prestigious award to my Governor and leader, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, FCA. His zero tolerance for crime and his support for community policing have given us the courage to act at the grassroots,” Hon. Monday stated.
“This honour belongs to the good people of Yagba East and to a Governor who believes that no development can take place without peace. We will not relent. We will do more to keep our communities safe.”
Hon. Monday noted that under Governor Ododo’s leadership, Yagba East has recorded improved collaboration between traditional rulers, vigilantes, hunters, and security agencies.
He said the council has invested in patrol logistics, intelligence gathering, and youth engagement programmes to prevent crime and address farmers-herders clashes.
“Our approach is simple: secure the people first. When our markets are safe, our farms are safe, and our children can go to school without fear, then we can talk about development,” he added.
The Chairman commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting state and local governments in the fight against insecurity.
Speaking at the event, the Publisher of Democracy Newsline Newspaper, Chief Olugbemi Femi, said Hon. Monday was recognized for his proactive leadership in maintaining peace in one of Kogi West’s border LGAs.
The event, themed “Economic Reforms and Sustainable Development in a Democracy: The Nigerian Experience,” featured a keynote address by Hon. Asiwaju Idris Asiru, Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning.
Other dignitaries inducted into the Good Governance Hall of Fame included the Hon. Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Senator Sunday Karimi, Professor Olanrewaju Sulaiman Abubakar and other leaders across federal, state and local government levels.
Hon. Monday concluded by assuring the people of Yagba East that his administration will continue to prioritize security, infrastructure and youth empowerment in line with the agenda of Governor Ododo.
