154 Bag First Class as UNIJOS Graduates Students with Different Certificates and Honorary Degrees

The J.T. Useini Stadium, as it is popularly called, was filled with graduands, visitors, and well-wishers to rejoice with the institution for its academic successes and graduation of the class of 2025.
Delivering his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, said it is with profound gratitude, a deep sense of humility, and responsibility that he welcomed everyone to the combined 35th and 36th Convocation ceremony of the university, which coincides with its golden jubilee of 50 years of academic excellence, innovation, resilience, and national service.
The Vice-Chancellor paid tribute to the eight students of the university who lost their lives in a motor accident on December 11, 2025.
He said the loss of these lives is tragic and has greatly affected the mood of the university and the convocation.
“As we pray for the repose of their souls, we commit their friends, colleagues, and families to prayers to have the fortitude to bear the loss.”
The Vice-Chancellor said the university has grown from a modest campus to a globally recognized center of learning, research, and innovation.
He highlighted the university’s achievements in various fields, including medicine, pharmacy, agriculture, arts, humanities, management sciences, engineering, security studies, and AI.
The university has introduced 18 new undergraduate programs, including dental sciences, cybersecurity, software engineering, forensic science, radiography, physiotherapy, pharmacology, entrepreneurship, and social work.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed his gratitude to the federal government, the Plateau State government, and other stakeholders for their support.
He also congratulated the 21,425 graduands, including 407 PhD holders, 2,977 master’s degree holders, 243 postgraduate diploma holders, and 17,798 bachelor’s degree holders, including 154 first-class honors.
The university has been adjudged one of the top 10 Nigerian universities and has witnessed accelerated development in infrastructure, digital innovation, and campus renewal.
The Chancellor of the university, Alhaji Nuhu Bamali, said the university has kept the vision of its founding fathers to nurture and shape leaders and serve society.
The Pro-Chancellor, Professor Grace Bent, described the occasion as a celebration of destiny and a testament of history.
The ceremony included the presentation of certificates to the graduands and honorary doctorate degrees to some distinguished personalities.
