250 Kogi Elderly Citizens Receive N50m Boost from First Lady

The Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has disbursed N50 million to support 250 elderly citizens across the 21 local government areas of in Kogi State.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday at Government House Lokoja, Tinubu said the gesture was the third edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS 3rd Edition)
Mrs Tinubu, represented by Kogi Governor’s wife, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, said the RHIESS aims to enhance the well-being of senior citizens across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“The initiative has disbursed a total of N1.9 billion to support 9,500 vulnerable senior citizens aged 65 and above.
“It also include beneficiaries from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA). Each beneficiary will receive N200,000 to improve their living conditions,” she said.
She emphasised the importance of recognising the contributions of senior citizens to nation-building.
The first lady encouraged them to remain active, find purpose in community life, and prioritise their health and well-being.
The wife of the Deputy Gov., Mrs Margaret Oyibo, praised the First Lady’s compassionate efforts and urged beneficiaries to use the financial support wisely.
Hajia Sefinat Ododo further distributed hundreds of 10kg bags of rice to the elderly citizens as well as all participants at the event.
A beneficiary, Mrs Suliat Abdullahi, commended the first lady for the gesture towards the senior citizens in the country.
“We thank our first lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu for coming to our aid to alleviate our suffering and improve our well-being,” Abdullahi said.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Dec. 4, empowered 250 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Kogi through her RHI providing grants of N200,000 each to support their businesses, to mark the 2025 World Disability Day.
