Earlier today in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the residence of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, was abuzz with patriotic energy and a sense of renewed purpose, as no fewer than ten diverse groups and associations from across Kano State converged to pay him a courtesy visit.
In what can be described as a powerful show of solidarity and grassroots connection, Senator Barau—flanked by the Honourable Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, and other prominent chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC)—welcomed delegations from different socio-economic and political spheres of life in Kano.
The first to be received was the Young Traders Association of Singer Market, led by Alhaji Rabiu Usman Dankoli. The young traders, expressing deep concern, lamented the decline of commercial activities in Kano, which historically stood as the second-largest commercial hub in Nigeria after Lagos.
They narrated how the once-vibrant Singer Market, and many others like it, now face dwindling patronage, infrastructure decay, and economic challenges. Senator Barau, listening with empathy, assured the traders of his commitment to reviving commerce in Kano.
> “With your support, and that of all the good people of Kano, we will restore our state’s commercial legacy, bring back investments, and create opportunities for our hardworking traders and entrepreneurs,” Senator Barau declared passionately.
Next came a delegation from the Kano State Social Media Forum, led by Comrade Kabiru Aluta Danbatta. This vibrant group of digital influencers and online opinion leaders expressed their full support for the Deputy Senate President’s developmental strides and pledged to use their platforms to project his achievements and counter misinformation.
> “We are solidly behind your leadership, distinguished senator. You represent a new era of politics—people-centered and purposeful,” said Danbatta.
In a unique cultural gesture, hunters from the 44 local government areas of Kano State paid homage to Senator Barau, reiterating their role in supporting community security and cultural preservation.
They were followed by the Kano State Carpenters’ Association, whose delegation, led by Alhaji Suleiman Ibrahim, donated fifty handcrafted beds for the Senator’s upcoming mass wedding programme—a social initiative designed to support underprivileged couples in Kano.
“These gestures reflect the strength of our community spirit. Together, we are building a more inclusive Kano, where no one is left behind.”
Approximately 100 youths from Tsanyawa LGA, under the leadership of Alhaji Dahiru Shuaibu Dangogo, also visited the Senator. Their courtesy call symbolized the growing youth support for Senator Barau’s people-oriented initiatives, particularly in the areas of education, skills acquisition, and economic empowerment.
Similarly, chieftains of the APC from Bagwai/Shanono LGAs came to express their gratitude for Senator Barau’s strategic support during the recent bye-election, which saw the party emerge victorious. Their visit was one of both appreciation and renewed commitment.
Representatives of the National Association of Tomato Growers, Processors, and Marketers of Nigeria (NATPAN), Kano North, were also present. They highlighted the challenges facing the tomato value chain and sought the Senator’s intervention in areas such as irrigation, processing facilities, and market linkages.
Among the visiting groups was Mata Gatan Abba, a women’s advocacy and empowerment group that announced its decision to rename itself “Matta Gatan Barau” in honor of the Deputy Senate President. Their spokesperson stated:
> “We have changed our name because Senator Barau is the true defender of women’s rights and dignity. We are proud to stand with him.”
The day’s events concluded with a courtesy visit from the Tinubu/Barau Youth Organisation, whose members reiterated their support for both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Senator Barau’s leadership.
In his closing remarks, Senator Barau I. Jibrin thanked all the groups for their show of solidarity, trust, and love.
> “The welfare and well-being of our people will always remain top on our agenda. We will not let our people down. We are here to serve, and with God on our side and the people behind us, we will not fail.”
As the delegations dispersed with renewed hope, today’s gathering served as a powerful testament to the unifying power of leadership that listens, leads, and delivers.
