In the quiet yet resilient communities of Rogo Local Government Area in Kano State, northern Nigeria, a story of commitment, leadership, and tangible development has begun to unfold—one that residents proudly share as a testament to fulfilled promises.
When Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila (OFR, PhD) first campaigned for office as the representative of Kano South Senatorial District, he made three clear pledges to the people of Rogo: to improve healthcare, education, and security. Today, those promises are no longer just words spoken on campaign grounds—they are visible realities shaping everyday life.
One of the most significant milestones in Rogo is the construction of a modern, fully equipped hospital in the Zarewa district. With a capacity of 40 beds, this facility stands as a beacon of hope for residents of Zarewa, Fulata, Sundu, Belli, and surrounding communities. For many families who previously traveled long distances for medical care, access to quality healthcare is now within reach.
Beyond infrastructure, the Senator has also invested in human capital. Indigenous students from Rogo have been sponsored to study health-related courses in institutions such as Schools of Nursing and Health Technology. Others have been granted scholarships to pursue degree programs at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil. These scholarships cover tuition,
accommodation, and monthly stipends—ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of education.
Expanding Educational Opportunities
Education, as promised, has become a cornerstone of development in the area. By supporting students across different levels, Senator Kawu Sumaila is nurturing a new generation of professionals who will contribute to the community’s growth. Parents and community leaders alike have praised these efforts, noting a renewed enthusiasm for learning among young people.
Strengthening Security
Security, a critical concern for many rural communities, has also received focused attention. Through advocacy at the national level, the Senator facilitated the deployment of a Joint Task Force (JTF) unit to Rogo, helping to stabilize the area and deter criminal activities.
Additionally, local vigilante groups in Zarewa and Bari Gwangwan wards have been equipped with motorcycles to improve mobility and response time. These measures have significantly enhanced safety, allowing residents to go about their daily lives with greater confidence.
Empowerment and Livelihood Support
Understanding that development must also touch livelihoods, Senator Kawu Sumaila initiated programs to empower women and youth with vocational skills. Many have been trained in trades that enable self-reliance, and startup capital has been provided to help them establish small businesses
From the early days of his tenure, he also distributed essential equipment—such as water pumps, grinding machines, and transportation support—to party leaders and community members, easing daily burdens and boosting local productivity.
Boosting Agriculture
Agriculture, the backbone of Rogo’s economy, has not been left behind. The Senator facilitated the installation of 300 hand-pump tube wells to support dry-season farming. In addition, 300 irrigation machines were distributed to farmers, enabling year-round cultivation and improving food security and income levels.
A Community’s Gratitude
Across Rogo, voices of appreciation echo through villages and town centers. Community members commend Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila for not only listening to their needs but acting on them decisively. His work is widely seen as a model of responsive representation—where leadership translates into measurable progress.
