Akwa Ibom 2027: Uwah Rallies Uyo Stakeholders Behind Eno, Tinubu

By Yahaya Idris

The Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, has intensified grassroots political mobilisation in Uyo Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on political stakeholders to remain united behind Governor Umo Eno and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Uwah, who is also the Political Leader of Uyo, made the call on Wednesday, August 12, when he hosted political leaders, stakeholders and party members from the local government at his residence.

He said Uyo remained strategically important to the political fortunes of Akwa Ibom State and expressed confidence that the local government would record a stronger electoral performance for Eno and Tinubu in 2027.

The SSG conveyed greetings from Governor Eno and thanked residents of Uyo for their continued support for the administration.
According to him, the governor deserves continued backing because of the development initiatives and opportunities being created across the state.

“Things are better with Uyo now than in the past. The Governor deserves the support of Uyo people,” Uwah said.

The SSG also expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of Senator Aniekan Bassey, Hon. Mark Essiet and Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo, predicting victory for the candidates in the 2027 elections.

He, however, urged party members to exercise discipline and avoid political activities capable of distracting the incumbent local government administration from governance.

Uwah specifically cautioned against premature campaigns for the Uyo Local Government chairmanship, saying such activities could shift attention away from the administration’s responsibilities.

He further disclosed plans to hold separate engagements with youths and women in Uyo as part of efforts to broaden grassroots participation and strengthen political mobilisation.

The Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area and State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, commended Uwah for convening the stakeholders’ meeting.

Udo described collaboration among political leaders as essential to strengthening the party and sustaining grassroots mobilisation.
He disclosed that more than 20,000 new voters had been registered in Uyo during the recent voter registration exercise.

The development, he said, represented a significant opportunity for increased political participation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Also speaking, former Chairman of the Local Government and Civil Service Commission, Hon. Monday Eyo, commended the Akwa Ibom State Government for its infrastructure projects and appointments.

Eyo cited the Uyo Village Road among projects he said demonstrated the administration’s commitment to development and urged party members to remain steadfast as the 2027 elections approach.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia; Chairman of UCCDA, Hon. Anietie Eka; Delivery Adviser on Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh; Dean of Permanent Secretaries, Mrs. Uduak Eyo Ansa; SSA on Entrepreneurial Development, Mr. Ime Uwah; councillors, supervisors and other political stakeholders.
The meeting is part of renewed efforts to strengthen political engagement and grassroots mobilisation in Uyo ahead of the 2027 general elections.
