The Alawo of Awo Ekiti, HRM Oba Abdulazeez Sulaiman Olaleye Adejuyigbe IV, has congratulated Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, BAO, on his landslide victory in the June 20, 2026 Ekiti Governorship election, describing the outcome as a clear endorsement of the governor’s performance in the last four years.
Speaking through his palace in Awo Ekiti, headquarters of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, the monarch said the people of Ekiti voted for continuity because they could see tangible results of good governance across the state.
Oba Adejuyigbe praised Governor Oyebanji as a “fantastic governor” and a visionary leader who has redefined governance in Ekiti State.
He highlighted the administration’s achievements to include: massive infrastructural development in urban and rural communities, job creation and empowerment programs for youths, construction and rehabilitation of roads linking towns and villages, prompt payment of workers’ salaries, pensions and gratuities and improved welfare package and recognition for traditional rulers.
“Within his first four years, Governor BAO has transformed Ekiti State. Our roads are motorable, our youths are engaged, workers are happy, and the dignity of the traditional institution has been restored,” the Alawo stated.
“Truly, Ekiti has become another London in Nigeria in terms of development and quality of life.”
The monarch noted that the governor’s inclusive style of leadership has brought peace, unity and progress to all parts of the state, including remote communities like Awo Ekiti.
Oba Adejuyigbe also used the opportunity to market Awo Ekiti to local and foreign investors.
He said the town is peaceful, secure, and strategically located, making it ideal for agriculture, education, real estate, and small-scale industries.
“Awo Ekiti is safe and conducive for investment,” he declared.
“I urge investors, both within and outside Nigeria, not to hesitate in bringing their businesses here. The security of lives and properties is guaranteed. The people are hospitable and ready to support any genuine business venture.”
He added that the traditional council is ready to provide necessary support and land access to investors willing to partner with the community for development.
The royal father further appealed to sons and daughters of Awo Ekiti in the diaspora to come home and contribute their quota to the development of their ancestral town.
According to him, government efforts must be complemented by the input of indigenes in areas such as education, health, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.
“This is the time for all of us to rally round the traditional institution and the state government,” Oba Adejuyigbe said.
“Let us build schools, provide scholarships, support our farmers, and create opportunities for our youths. Awo Ekiti belongs to all of us, and we must all be part of its growth story.”
Leaders of socio-cultural groups, youth organizations, and market women in Awo Ekiti have hailed the monarch’s statement, saying it reflects the aspirations of the people.
Many residents said the combination of a performing governor at the state level and a proactive traditional ruler at the grassroots gives hope for more development projects in Awo Ekiti before 2027.
With Governor BAO set for a second term and the palace pushing for investment and diaspora engagement, stakeholders believe Awo Ekiti is positioned for accelerated growth in the coming years.
