America’s Warning: Nigeria Urged to Seek International Support to Tackle Insecurity – Hon. Ola Ekundayo

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Hon. Henry Ola Ekundayo, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to seek assistance from militarily and technologically advanced nations to address Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
Ola Ekundayo’s remarks follow the recent designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) by the United States over alleged Christian persecution, as well as reported comments attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump threatening military action against extremist groups responsible for widespread killings in the country. The development has heightened anxiety among many Nigerians.
Speaking at the International Barcelona Hotel in Abuja on Saturday, November 8, 2025, during a three-day National Conference on Diplomacy and Management, Ola Ekundayo stressed that foreign intervention may be necessary given the government’s difficulty in resolving the nation’s insecurity.
“Considering the lingering security crisis that has defied local solutions, seeking external assistance is not out of place,” he stated. While noting that some of the claims surrounding a so-called “Christian genocide” in Nigeria are exaggerated, Ola Ekundayo said any action aimed at stopping mass killings should be welcomed. He added that U.S. military support, if properly negotiated, could help restore peace.
He also called for strengthened diplomatic engagement between Nigeria and the United States to develop a mutually agreeable approach to tackling terrorism and insecurity.
Reflecting on the conference themed ‘Transforming the Economy and Enhancing Organizational Management Through Innovative Diplomacy’, Ola Ekundayo said he was impressed by the quality of presentations. Though he attended by invitation, he noted that he has gained new insights and hopes to be inducted as a fellow of the institute during its next ceremony.
