APC HOR PRIMARIES ROCKED BY ALLEGED RESULT MANIPULATION, VIOLENCE AND IMPOSITION ATTEMPTS IN IREPODUN LGA – Fagbemi, Solace, Ajuloo and Gani Abolarin in the eye of the storm.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives Primary Elections held in Irepodun Local Government Area, one of the four LGAs that make up Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency, have come under serious scrutiny following widespread allegations of irregularities, result manipulation and intimidation of party members.
Reports from multiple wards across Irepodun LGA indicate that certain party officials allegedly backed by the Kwara State APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, alongside Olayinka Fafoluyi (Solace), former Senior Aide in government, reportedly used photocopies of original result sheets for collation of votes during the exercise. Credible information available to stakeholders further suggests that efforts are allegedly ongoing to alter and edit figures before entries are made into the original result sheets in a desperate attempt to favour Hon. Gani Abolarin who is said to be the State Chairman’s anointed Candidate.
There are now strong concerns among party faithfuls that manipulated and falsified figures may eventually be announced as official results for Irepodun LGA. Several stakeholders within the party have openly accused some officials of compromising the integrity of the process in a bid to impose a preferred candidate against the will of APC members who participated in the primaries.
The situation has further been complicated by reports involving the incumbent House of Representatives member, Hon. Raheem Tunji Olawuyi (Ajuloopin), who is alleged to have mounted pressure to influence outcomes particularly in Omu-Aran Ward 1 where party members reportedly resisted attempts to force his candidacy on them. Observers at the ward disclosed that no valid election process was conducted there following widespread rejection and protests by party members dissatisfied with his performance after three terms in office.
Party members across Irepodun LGA have however insisted that they will resist any attempt to subvert the will of the people. Copies of collated ward results which were announced at the wards are already in possession of aspirants, stakeholders and party agents across the local government, making it difficult for any fraudulent alterations to go unnoticed.
Stakeholders have therefore vowed not to accept any manipulated outcome or imposed candidate, insisting that only authentic results reflecting the actual votes cast at polling points should be recognized by the APC party leadership and the Electoral Committee.
Further reports from Arandun Ward also paint a disturbing picture of violence, intimidation and abuse of influence during the exercise. Hon. Lakan Adewoye (Laff) has been accused by party members of allegedly deploying security operatives and suspected political thugs to intimidate voters and disrupt the process. Eyewitness accounts further allege that after the atmosphere of fear created in the ward, results were subsequently written in favour of Hon. Gani Abolarin.
Political observers and concerned stakeholders have therefore called on the APC leadership to immediately investigate the conduct of the primaries in Arandun Ward and other affected areas within Irepodun LGA, warning that recognizing fabricated results in these locations could damage the credibility of the party ahead of future elections.
The growing tension in Irepodun is believed to be connected to the overwhelming turnout of APC members witnessed across the four LGAs during the primaries, where party faithfuls turned out massively to support aspirants of their choice in the House of Representatives Primaries.
As party members await the official announcement of results from the Elections Committee, stakeholders are urging the APC and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq CON to reassure its supporters and the general public of its commitment to fairness, transparency and internal democracy by ensuring that only genuine results that truly reflect the wishes of party members across Ekiti, Isin, Irepodun and Oke-Ero LGAs are recognized and upheld.
