APC Members in Kabba/Bunu LGA Defend Senator Karimi, Reject ‘Politics of Distraction
Concerned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area have come out in support of Senator Sunday Karimi, rejecting attempts to stifle his voice and dismiss his call for Kogi West indigenes to take ownership of their destiny.
In a statement signed by Hon. Kehinde Afolabi, the group described Senator Karimi’s statement as a “legitimate and democratic aspiration”, and condemned Hon. Ayo Emmanuel’s attempt to portray it as “careless” and “unpatriotic” as “gaslighting” and a “desperate attempt to stifle dissenting voices”.
The statement criticized Hon. Ayo’s praise for Governor Ododo’s performance, saying it was not a justification for denying Kogi West its rightful turn at the governorship in 2027.
The group also took issue with Hon. Ayo’s warning against alliances with Kogi East, describing it as “divisive rhetoric” and a “throwback to the politics of old”.
The APC members urged Hon. Ayo to eschew tribalism and work towards unity and inclusiveness, saying the people of Kogi West deserved better than petty squabbles and distractions.
The statement read: “Let us focus on building a strong and united Kogi West, rather than engaging in petty squabbles and distractions. The people of Kogi West deserve better.”
He commended the boldness and patriotic stance of the senator, advocating for fairness, equity, and justice, and pointed out that he remains the only legitimate voice to speak for the district.
He asked where Ayo Emmanuel was when the district was treated shabbily by his acclaimed leader, former Governor Yahaya Bello, who abandoned his promise of handing over to someone from Kogi West in 2023, despite the huge support he enjoyed from the zone.
He noted that instead of twisting the senator’s patriotic calls, he should have commended the courageous stand of the people’s representative at the national level.
