Suspension of Hon. Emmanuel Onuche, Ibaji Local Government Chairman – Due Process Must Be Followed – Idris Miliki Abdul
The Conscience for Human Rights and Conflicts Resolution (CHRCR) has expressed concern over the reported suspension of Hon. Emmanuel Onuche, the Ibaji Local Government Chairman, and emphasized that due process must be followed.
In a statement signed by Idris Miliki Abdul, Executive Director of CHRCR, the organization questioned the power of the Kogi State House of Assembly to suspend a local government chairman before constituting an investigation committee.
“The state House of Assembly has the power to make laws and carry out oversight functions on the local government, but can it suspend a local government chairman before constituting an investigation committee?” the statement read.
The CHRCR emphasized the importance of following due process and called on the Kogi State House of Assembly to always follow due diligence in its activities.
“We wish to call on the Kogi State House of Assembly, as a law-making institution, to always follow due process diligently in its activities, and the current matter under review cannot be an exemption,” the statement added.
The organization also sought to know the offence or offences alleged against the chairman and urged the House to make the process and its outcome public, in the interest of justice and fairness.
The CHRCR’s statement has sparked interest in the ongoing developments in Ibaji Local Government Area, with many calling for transparency and accountability in the matter.
