Aregbesola Blames APC for Nigeria’s Woes, Urges Voters to Seek Alternative in 2027
Former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has expressed concern over Nigeria’s worsening economic condition and rising insecurity, urging citizens to reject what he described as “selfish and insensitive leadership” in the 2027 general elections.
Aregbesola, who made the remarks on Saturday during the unveiling and commissioning of the new Kwara State secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Basin, Ilorin, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing to address the country’s socio-economic challenges.
He lamented that the standard of living had fallen drastically, noting that inflation and unemployment had pushed many Nigerians into hardship.
“Before, with ₦10,000 you could start a small business confidently, but today even ₦200,000 is not enough. There is hunger everywhere, insecurity, and joblessness. Those in governance today are self-centred and think only about themselves,” Aregbesola said.
The former governor also criticised the poor state of infrastructure, citing the neglect of key roads such as Ilorin–Ibadan, Ilorin–Lokoja, and Ilorin–Offa. He accused the government of misplacing priorities by focusing on less critical projects.
He urged ADC members to intensify grassroots campaigns to promote the party’s values, saying, “Let’s keep talking about ADC — in markets, offices, mosques, and churches — so people will know about the party that truly wants to work for them.”
In his address, former Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdul Fatai Ahmed, described the ADC as a platform that promotes inclusiveness and a new political direction for the state. “This party has come to define how inclusiveness can be achieved using the power of everyone — men and women alike,” he said.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, added that the event marked the official launch of the party’s structure in Kwara State, describing ADC as “a people’s party focused on liberating Nigerians from poor governance.”
Hon. Danladi from Offa Local Government also commended Aregbesola’s commitment to grassroots politics, saying, “Our roads are bad, there is lack of water and insecurity everywhere. It is as if there’s no governance. But ADC is a party where there’s no intimidation and where every person has prominence.”
The event also witnessed the defection of Babatunde Muhammad, a former state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the ADC along with thousands of his supporters, a move party leaders believe will strengthen ADC’s base in Kwara and boost its chances in future elections.
