Kwara Police Arrest 16 Suspects, Recover 50 Live Ammunition in Fresh Crackdown on Crime
The Kwara State Police Command has intensified its fight against criminal activities across the state, arresting 16 suspects and recovering 50 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition.
Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this in Ilorin while briefing journalists on the command’s achievements in the past month. He said the arrests were made for offences including kidnapping, armed robbery, homicide, child defilement, and drug trafficking.
According to Ojo, the successes were achieved through credible intelligence, coordinated field operations, and collaboration with other security agencies, leading to the dismantling of several criminal networks operating in different parts of the state.
Among those arrested were six suspected kidnappers, a homicide suspect accused of beheading a motorcycle mechanic, and others linked to cases of child abuse and illicit drug dealings.
The commissioner expressed concern over the increasing involvement of minors in serious crimes, describing the development as worrisome. He cited recent cases involving a 15-year-old boy, Falade Ebenezer, arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Adewole, and a 17-year-old, Ridwan Oseni, accused of defiling a five-year-old child.
“These young suspects have confessed to their crimes and will be prosecuted after investigations,” Ojo stated.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven and technology-led policing, the police boss urged parents, teachers, and religious leaders to intensify moral guidance for children to curb the rising wave of juvenile crime in the state.
“Our collective vigilance and moral responsibility are essential to prevent young people from drifting into criminality,” he added.
