Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo Criticizes Atiku Abubakar Over Timing of PDP Resignation and Use of Coat of Arms
A prominent lawyer and Honorable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barrister Festus Keyamo has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of attempting to draw attention away from the mourning period for late President Muhammadu Buhari by releasing his letter of resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Minister questioned the timing of Atiku’s resignation letter, which was made public just after the announcement of President Buhari’s passing.
He disclosed in a statement posted on his social media handle, X (formerly known as Twitter), criticizing the motive behind the release of Atiku’s resignation letter during this period.
According to him, the action demonstrates Atiku’s alleged obsession with his presidential ambitions, showing a lack of sympathy and empathy during a solemn occasion.
Furthermore, Barrister Keyamo pointed out that Atiku’s use of the Federal Government’s Coat of Arms in his private communication is both morally and legally wrong.
As Atiku has not been a government functionary for over 18 years, the lawyer cited Section 6 of the Flag and Coat of Arms Act, which makes such use an offense.
He emphasized his duty as a lawyer to protect Nigeria’s laws and constitution, urging Atiku to refrain from using the Coat of Arms in his personal or political communications.
This criticism highlights ongoing debates about political decorum and adherence to legal protocols among Nigerian politicians.
