Bandits Kill One, Abduct Three in Historic Yankamaye Town of Tsanyawa LGA.

By Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu Democracy Newsline Newspaper November 30th 2025.

One person has been killed and three others abducted after armed bandits launched an attack on the historic community of Yankamaye in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident, confirmed by the member representing Ghari and Tsanyawa Federal Constituency, Engr. Sani Bala Tsanyawa, adds to the growing list of violent attacks affecting border communities in recent weeks. According to the lawmaker, the armed men stormed Yankamaye late in the night, shooting sporadically and causing residents to flee for safety.

Yankamaye is one of several settlements lying close to the boundary between Kano State and Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State—an axis that has witnessed repeated bandit incursions due to its proximity to forested hideouts used by criminal gangs.

The latest assault comes barely a day after nine persons were kidnapped in the neighbouring Masaurari area on Monday. Family members of the victims say they have received no communication from the abductors since the incident, heightening fear and uncertainty in the community.

Similarly, in the nearby villages of Yanchibi, Sundu, and Biresawa, ten women were abducted in separate attacks, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

Local residents say the frequency of the attacks has left many communities in fear, with some families already relocating to safer areas. Community leaders are calling on security agencies to intensify surveillance and reinforce the presence of security personnel across vulnerable settlements.

As security concerns continue to grow, lawmakers and traditional rulers are urging both federal and state authorities to prioritize the protection of border communities, many of which have become soft targets for criminal groups.
