The political influence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, popularly known as SAK, continues to resonate across Kano North Senatorial District as grassroots politicians and influential stakeholders from Ghari, Tsanyawa and Makoda Local Government Areas have reaffirmed their commitment to securing victory for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections.
The renewed show of support followed separate visits by two political delegations to Senator Barau in Abuja, where they pledged their loyalty to the APC and expressed their determination to mobilise voters at the grassroots in support of the party’s candidates at all levels.
The development represents another demonstration of political mobilisation around the APC SAK movement, which Senator Barau has continued to promote as a platform for political unity, grassroots engagement and development across Kano North.
The first delegation, comprising prominent grassroots politicians from Ghari and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas, was led by the member representing the constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Garba Ya’u Gwarmai.
Despite his inability to secure the APC ticket during the party’s recent primary elections, Gwarmai demonstrated his continued commitment to the party by pledging, alongside his supporters, to work for the success of all APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
The delegation assured Senator Barau that its members would intensify political mobilisation from polling units to wards and across the two local government areas to ensure electoral success for the APC, covering the presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives, governorship and State Assembly contests. Gwarmai emphasised that their decision to remain committed to the party was driven by their confidence in Senator Barau’s political leadership and their determination to protect the collective interests of the APC.
Similarly, a broad-based delegation from Makoda Local Government Area also visited the Deputy Senate President to declare its support for the APC SAK movement.
The delegation comprised Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, elder statesmen, youths, women representatives, traders and other influential stakeholders from the local government.
Led by a former Chairman of Makoda Local Government Area, Alhaji Mahmuda Adamu, the delegation included Alhaji Mukhtari Sale and other prominent political stakeholders.
Adamu, who also contested the APC primary election for the State House of Assembly, reaffirmed his commitment to the party and pledged to mobilise his supporters towards ensuring victory for all APC candidates.
Speaking during the separate meetings, Senator Barau commended Gwarmai, Adamu and members of their respective delegations for what he described as their loyalty, commitment and determination to preserve party unity despite the outcomes of the party primaries.
He noted that political differences arising from primary elections should not undermine the collective interests of the party, stressing that unity, mutual understanding and cooperation remained essential for achieving electoral success.
The Deputy Senate President also assured the groups that their contributions and sacrifices would be recognised, expressing optimism that God would provide them with opportunities to serve in even higher capacities in the future.
He further reiterated his commitment to improving the living conditions of people across Kano North, maintaining that the development projects and empowerment initiatives already introduced were only the beginning of a broader programme of intervention.
According to him, the next legislative assembly would witness renewed efforts to expand existing development programmes and introduce fresh initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of the people, particularly in education, economic empowerment, infrastructure and other critical sectors.
As part of the engagement, Senator Barau facilitated empowerment support for approximately 200 grassroots politicians, with each beneficiary receiving N100,000 as business support.
The intervention, amounting to approximately N20 million, was accompanied by the distribution of 30 motorcycles, 15 sewing machines, 15 grinding machines and nine refrigerators to beneficiaries to support small businesses, improve household incomes and strengthen economic activities within their communities.
The empowerment programme is expected to provide additional livelihood opportunities for beneficiaries while supporting grassroots economic activities across the benefiting communities.
Political observers note that the willingness of some aspirants who did not secure party tickets to remain within the APC and support other candidates highlights the importance of reconciliation and internal cohesion in building a united political platform ahead of the general elections.
With the latest declarations of support from Ghari, Tsanyawa and Makoda, the APC SAK movement continues to expand its engagement with different political and community groups across Kano North.
The movement’s emphasis on grassroots mobilisation, party unity, economic empowerment and development is expected to remain central to its political activities as preparations for the forthcoming general elections gather momentum.
Senator Barau reiterated his commitment to working with party leaders, elected representatives, political stakeholders and ordinary citizens to advance the collective interests of Kano North and strengthen the APC across the state.
The message from the latest meetings was clear: the political mobilisation is not limited to individual ambitions but is being presented by the participating groups as a collective effort towards securing the success of the APC at all levels.
