CONTRACT DELAY: KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT FROWNS AT THE SLOW PACE OF WORK, CHARGES CONTRACTORS TO WORK FOR THE VALUE OF MONEY RECEIVED

The newly appointed Commissioner for Works and Housing in Kogi State, Hon. Samson Bako has expressed dissatisfaction with contractors handling various projects in the State.
Hon. Bako made this known to Journalists in the State recently while inspecting multi-billion naira projects at the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTEC) Osara.
He noted that, the commitment of His Excellency Alh. Dr Yahaya Adoza Bello to infrastructural development in the State is second to none in Sub-Saharan Africa, stressing that, any contractor that is not ready to work in accordance with the contractual agreement could be legally disengaged at any time.
In his word, “we are not pleased because the 3.72km CUSTEC road network construction was awarded in September 2022 and up till now the work is below 30% and we are no longer comfortable” he said.
The commissioner who was also displeased with the contractors handling the building projects at the Confluence University of Science and Technology, charged them to expedite action in order to complete the job before the commencement of rain.
Bako lauded Musalib Construction Nigeria Ltd, handling Information Technology building for the feat of work accomplished.
He further charged all the contractors to double-up in order to complete the job before the rainy season.
The project inspected are:
1. CUSTEC 3.72k dual carriageway
2. Reconstruction of 13.71km Itape -Total junction okene
3. construction of CUSTEC Senate Building
4. Construction of Basic medicine and Health Science twin Lecture Theatre
5. Construction of the School Laboratory
6. Construction of the School Library
7. Construction of the Faculty of Information Technology
Samson Bako pointed out that his next tour would be the eastern and the western senatorial District of the State and that he said would make the projects withess speedy completion.
He expressed confidence that the quality of work at CUSTEC would meet with the quality and level of deployment of the infrastructure already at the University.
Hon. Bako described Gov. Bello’s commitment to making CUSTECH a world class University as unprecedented, pointed out that the Governor has proven to be a rare gem and a National leader.
While promising that the Ministry would not shirk in its monitoring and supervisory role, promised to sustain the confidence the Ministry has maintained in quality service delivery.
