CP DANTAWAYE ENGAGES RETIRED POLICE OFFICERS, COMMENDS IGP’S EFFORT IN IMPROVING WELFARE OF BOTH SERVING AND RETIRED PERSONNEL
The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, engaged with the leadership of retired Police officers at the Command Headquarters, Lokoja. The meeting, which was marked by mutual respect and reflection, offered a platform for meaningful engagement between the command and the retired personnels.
In his remarks, the CP flanked by the Command management team, warmly welcomed the retired Officers and acknowledged their invaluable service in the Nigeria Police. He further stated that he decided to call for the meeting to have a fruitful deliberations so as to enhance effective collaboration between serving and retired Officers.
The CP further commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his unwavering commitment in improving the welfare of both serving and retired officers. He disclosed that IGP has completed payment of all outstanding claims for Officers who died in active service.
The CP urged the retired Officers to use the formal channels to air their grievances, rather than resorting to public platforms. Stressing that IGP is also concerned about the general complaint on the pension for police officers and has been engaging at the highest level to ensure that, Police officers are happy in retirement.
The delegation led by CSP Abdullahi Ibrahim (Rtd) and ASP Shaibu Oke (Rtd), expressed their profound gratitude for the warm reception and the rare opportunity to interact directly with the CP. Describing the meeting as historic, noting that CP Dantawaye is the first Commissioner of Police in the State to grant them such audience, a privilege they cannot take for granted.
The group presented their formal prayers and requests to the CP as follows;
i. Establishment of Police Pension Board to bring all Police retirees under one umbrella
ii. Full payment of gratuity to retirees under the contributory pension scheme (CPS)
iii. Appealed to be removed from the contributory pension scheme.
As a gesture of goodwill and appreciation, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Abdulkadir El Jamal, on behalf of the CP, issued transport stipends to each member of the delegation, an act of benevolence symbolizing honor and solidarity.
