CSOs Groups Accuse APC Candidate Ukachukwu of Withholding $1.2m Land Funds
A coalition of over 40 civil society organizations has accused Senator Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the forthcoming Anambra State election, of failing to either allocate estate land in Lugbe, Abuja, or refund over $1.2m paid by subscribers more than three years ago.
At a press conference on Monday in Abuja, the coalition said it had received petitions from aggrieved subscribers against Chupi Company Limited, chaired by Senator Ukachukwu. According to its findings, Zoe Dew Dawn Nigeria Ltd had transferred \$1.2 million (about ₦1 billion) to Chupi Company Limited in 2022 on behalf of the subscribers for the purpose of acquiring land.
“Shockingly, three years have passed, yet not a single plot of land has been allocated, nor has their hard-earned money been refunded,” said Dr. Mike Femi, President of the coalition, while addressing journalists.
The coalition described the situation as a “monumental breach of trust” and a “direct assault on transparency, accountability, and good governance,” insisting that Ukachukwu’s refusal to honour the agreement raises serious doubts about his integrity and suitability to govern Anambra State.
The group announced a seven-day ultimatum to the APC candidate and his company, demanding either a full refund of the ₦1 billion or the immediate allocation of the estate lands.
“Failure to comply with these demands within the stipulated period will leave the subscribers with no other option than to occupy the streets of Anambra in peaceful but resolute protest until justice is served,” Dr. Femi warned.
The coalition also vowed to escalate the matter to relevant authorities, including the Anambra APC chapter, the party’s national secretariat, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police, and the Department of State Services (DSS).
“We will not fold our arms while public trust is brazenly betrayed and citizens are subjected to exploitation. Nigerians will no longer tolerate leaders who promise transparency but practice deception,” the statement read.
