In a landmark move to enhance Nigeria’s defence capacity and support national development, the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, today commissioned the Defence Holdings Company Limited (DHCL) at a high-level ceremony in Abuja.
The establishment of DHCL marks a strategic milestone in Nigeria’s drive towards achieving a self-reliant and robust Military Industrial Complex (MIC). Envisioned as a dynamic hub for innovation, enterprise, and industrial growth, the company is set to play a pivotal role in bolstering the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces while supporting the welfare of service members and their families.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Minister praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to strengthening the defence sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that the DHCL will serve as a vehicle for the military’s productive engagement in sectors such as real estate, engineering, and agriculture—fostering economic development and value creation.
> “As we commission DHCL, our hope for a brighter future in developing Nigeria’s military is being rekindled,” said Minister Badaru. “This venture will not only enhance our national defence capabilities but also serve as a model for military participation in the broader economic space.”
The initiative is expected to stimulate job creation, support innovation, and serve as a catalyst for sustainable development. The Minister further called on all stakeholders, including government institutions, private sector partners, and the general public, to support and collaborate with DHCL in the national interest.
The event was graced by top military officials, senior government representatives, members of the private sector, and other key stakeholders who expressed optimism about the positive impacts DHCL would bring.
