Delta @35: Obule Hails Oborevwori, Says Governor Has Put State on Path of Greater Glory

By Wilson Macaulay

WARRI — As felicitations continue to pour in from across Nigeria and beyond to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the creation of Delta State, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Comrade Francis Obule, JP, has congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the people of Delta State, describing the milestone as a celebration of resilience, unity, progress and renewed hope.

Obule, in a goodwill message marking the anniversary, said the 35-year journey of Delta State had been defined by the sacrifices, vision and contributions of successive administrations and generations of Deltans, but noted that the state was currently witnessing what he described as a new phase of purposeful and result-oriented leadership under Governor Oborevwori.

Delta State was created on August 27, 1991, and the 35th anniversary has provided an opportunity for Deltans to reflect on the state’s journey, celebrate its achievements and renew their commitment to building a more prosperous and united state.

According to Obule, Governor Oborevwori’s emergence on the saddle at a critical period in the state’s history has brought a new sense of direction, stability and confidence to the administration of the state.

He described the Governor as an indefatigable leader whose commitment to peace, development, infrastructure, human capital development, investment promotion and inclusive governance is steadily repositioning Delta for greater prosperity.

“On this auspicious occasion of the 35th anniversary of the creation of our dear Delta State, I warmly felicitate with His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State, and the good people of Delta, both at home and in the Diaspora.

“Thirty-five years is not merely a number. It represents a remarkable journey of resilience, sacrifice, unity, enterprise and collective determination. It is a journey that has produced leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, academics, workers and citizens whose contributions have continued to advance the development of our dear state and Nigeria.

“Today, we have every reason to celebrate, but we must also look forward with renewed determination.”

Obule said the anniversary was particularly significant because it offered Deltans an opportunity to appreciate the foundations laid by past administrations while supporting the current administration’s efforts to consolidate the gains of the past and build a stronger future.

He commended successive governors, legislators, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants, business owners, investors, community leaders, youths, women and other stakeholders for their contributions to Delta’s development.

The Governor himself, during a thanksgiving service in Asaba to mark the anniversary, acknowledged the contributions of successive administrations and the people of the state, stressing that peace had remained one of the major factors responsible for Delta’s development.

Obule, however, maintained that Governor Oborevwori’s leadership had added fresh momentum to the state’s development trajectory.

He particularly applauded the Governor’s emphasis on infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, agriculture, technology, investment and economic expansion.

“Governor Oborevwori is not a leader who merely talks about development; he is a leader who is relentlessly pursuing it.

“His administration has demonstrated that governance must translate into tangible improvements in the lives of the people. His approach is anchored on peace, stability, infrastructure, economic opportunity and human capital development.

“This is why I believe that the people of Delta have every reason to be hopeful about the future,” he said.

The Governor has repeatedly said his administration would build on the achievements of previous governments rather than discard existing foundations, while pursuing a more peaceful, prosperous, secure, inclusive and competitive Delta State.

Obule said the Governor’s investment drive, including the recently held Delta State Economic and Investment Summit, was another indication of his administration’s determination to move Delta from a largely public-sector-dependent economy towards a more diversified and investment-driven economy.

He noted that the summit brought investors, financial institutions, development partners, policymakers and business leaders together around the opportunities available in Delta, describing the initiative as evidence of the Governor’s forward-looking leadership.

The Governor’s political aide also commended Deltans for maintaining peace and accommodating the state’s ethnic and cultural diversity, describing peaceful coexistence as one of Delta’s greatest assets.

He urged political leaders and citizens across the three senatorial districts to continue to place the collective interest of Delta above partisan, ethnic or sectional considerations.

“We must strengthen the bonds that unite us as Deltans. We must continue to reject anything that threatens our peace and development. We must support policies and programmes capable of creating jobs, attracting investment, empowering our youths and improving the standard of living of our people.

“That is the Delta we should all be committed to building.”

Obule further congratulated Governor Oborevwori on what he described as his “remarkable leadership at a defining moment in the history of Delta State,” expressing confidence that the Governor’s administration have already

laid an enduring legacy.

He said the Governor’s growing national profile was also a source of pride to Deltans, particularly following his recent appointment as Director of Finance and Treasurer of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Organisation, describing the development as a recognition of Oborevwori’s political experience, administrative competence and growing influence beyond Delta.
