Democracy Day: Asiwaju Olusoji Urges Nigerians to Embrace Unity, Reject Division

Asiwaju Prince Dr. Olatunji Olusoji has called on Nigerians to use this year’s Democracy Day to recommit to unity, peaceful coexistence, and nation building, saying democracy remains the country’s strongest platform for justice and development.
In his Democracy Day message released Friday, the business mogul and philanthropist said the day should remind citizens of the sacrifices of Nigeria’s democratic heroes and the resilience of the Nigerian spirit.
“Today, we celebrate not only the endurance of democracy but also the hope it represents for every Nigerian. Democracy gives every citizen a voice and provides us with the opportunity to shape the future of our beloved country through dialogue, participation, and mutual respect,” he stated.
Dr. Olusoji acknowledged the economic, social, and security challenges confronting the nation, but urged citizens not to allow the difficulties divide them. Instead, he said, the challenges should strengthen collective resolve.
“Nigeria’s strength lies in her diversity. Our various ethnicities, cultures, religions, and languages are not weaknesses but assets that enrich our national identity. We must therefore reject every form of division, intolerance, and hatred, and embrace the values of unity, understanding, and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
The Asiwaju made a special appeal to Nigerian youths to remain hopeful and steadfast, noting that the future of the country depends on their commitment to peace, stability, and responsible citizenship.
He also charged leaders and citizens alike to place national interest above personal, sectional, and political considerations.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us honour the sacrifices of those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today by strengthening our democratic institutions and upholding the values that unite us as a people,” he added.
Dr. Olusoji concluded with prayers for God’s blessings on Nigeria, wisdom for leaders, and progress for the country.
Democracy Day, marked annually on June 12, commemorates Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999 and the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.
