The Distinguished Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, has expressed profound sorrow and deep concern over the abduction of female students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Senator Maidoki, who visited Wasagu shortly after the tragic incident, described the abduction as “a heartbreaking tragedy that has shaken not only the affected families but every peace-loving person in Kebbi South.”
During an interview with Democracy Newsline Newspaper, a respected stakeholder and political associate in Wasagu Local Government, Alhaji Muhammadu Altine Dan’da Wasagu, revealed that Senator Maidoki has been actively engaging with security authorities since the news of the abduction broke. According to him, the Senator has remained in constant communication with all relevant agencies, ensuring that every possible measure is taken toward securing the safe release of the girls.
Similarly, the Magajin Gari of Wasagu, Alhaji Muhammadu Lamido, confirmed that Senator Maidoki has shown unwavering concern for the victims and their families. He noted that the Senator was deeply moved by the thought of the abducted girls—many of whom come from humble homes of farmers and traders—being forcefully taken away from their classrooms, a place meant to nurture and protect their dreams.
Lamido further disclosed that Senator Maidoki assured community leaders and school authorities that His Excellency, the Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris, had already visited the school and is personally overseeing all ongoing rescue efforts. “The Senator told us that the Governor is fully committed and is doing everything possible to ensure the immediate release of our daughters,” Lamido added.
Senator Maidoki also reaffirmed that security agencies have granted approval for the establishment of a Mobile Police Squadron in Zuru. He emphasized that enhanced security presence in Zuru would naturally strengthen safety in Yauri, Wasagu, and surrounding communities.
“Since the moment he heard of this terrible incident, he have not rested,” Senator Maidoki was quoted as saying. “These girls are our daughters, our future mothers, and our future leaders. I am doing everything within my capacity to ensure they are rescued unharmed.”
He called on the people of Kebbi State—and indeed all Nigerians—to intensify prayers for the safe and swift return of the abducted students.
The Senator strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly assault on education and the future of young Nigerians. He expressed deep sympathy to the school’s principal, staff, and grieving families, lamenting the killing of school officials during the incident.
“No society should tolerate violence against those dedicated to educating its children,” the Senator said. “I am deeply worried and I condemn, in the strongest terms, this reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials who were carrying out their noble duty. Such acts of terror will never break our resolve.”
Alhaji Muhammadu Lamido further explained that Senator Maidoki urged residents to remain vigilant and to continue providing useful information to security agencies regarding the movements of bandits. The Senator assured the people that those responsible for the attack “will not escape justice.”
“Our security and intelligence agencies have been given clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure the perpetrators face full justice,” he stated.
He reaffirmed that improving security architecture remains a key priority of the government, noting ongoing efforts to recalibrate military, intelligence, and policing operations—especially in regions vulnerable to banditry and terrorism.
While acknowledging the fear and anxiety that has gripped communities in Danko/Wasagu and across Kebbi South, Senator Maidoki appealed for calm, unity, and patience. He assured the public that security personnel are working tirelessly to resolve the situation.
The Distinguished Senator concluded by pledging to maintain close contact with security officials, state authorities, community leaders, and the affected families until the abducted girls are safely reunited with their loved ones.
