Amid swirling rumors, the Adamawa State House of Assembly has set the record straight regarding the position of the Lamido Adamawa, reaffirming that he remains the Life Chairman of the Adamawa State Council of Emirs and Chiefs.
The House dismissed claims that the revered monarch had been stripped of his title, emphasizing that he continues to hold his position, as stipulated by law.
Musa Mahmoud Kallamu, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, addressed the public with a clear statement of clarification.
According to Kallamu, the Adamawa State House of Assembly had crafted the bill that established the Adamawa State Council of Chiefs with specific provisions for the Lamido Adamawa’s role.
Section 17 of the bill solidifies the council’s creation, while Section 18 clearly defines the membership of the council, including chiefs of various ranks, the permanent secretary of chieftaincy affairs, and the chairman of the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON).
Kallamu emphasized that the Lamido Adamawa’s position as the council’s chairman is enshrined in the bill, and it remains unaffected by any changes, including the creation of zonal traditional councils within the state.
He clarified that while these new councils will have a rotational chairmanship structure, all zonal chairs will ultimately report to the Lamido Adamawa, reinforcing his status as the supreme traditional leader of the state.
This clarification puts to rest any doubts about the continued leadership of the Lamido Adamawa, ensuring that his esteemed position remains intact.
It serves as a strong reminder of the respect and significance attributed to traditional rulers in the governance and cultural fabric of Adamawa State.
