PLATEAU YOUTH LAMBAST SHEIK JINGRE OVER ‘RECKLESS AND DIVISIVE’ COMMENTS
By Peter Azi – Jos
The Coalition of Plateau Youth in Jos has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies to call Sheikh Yahaya Jingre to order over what it described as “reckless and divisive statements.”
This was contained in a statement issued during a press conference in Jos on Thursday.
Reading the text, Chairman of the group, Gujahar Obed, said:
“As responsible youths, we will not stand aloof and fold our arms while people like Sheikh Yahaya Jingre destroy our relative peace and common heritage in the country.”
According to him, the group is law-abiding, focused on a brighter future, and will not engage in insults like those being traded by some Muslims and Christians in the country.
“As an elder statesman and Islamic scholar, the Sheikh should emulate Sheikh Mansur Sokoto, Sheikh Nura Khalid and others who always preach unity among diverse religions,” Obed said.
“What we need at this moment, when we are bedeviled by insecurity and economic hardship, is unity and support for the government to deliver the dividends of democracy.”
He added: “Nobody can claim that Muslims are the majority in Nigeria. Out of 36 governors, 20 are Christians. Out of 48 ministers, 28 are Christians, among other positions in the country.”
“It is outrageous and with total dismay that an elder like Sheikh Jingre would continue sowing seeds of discord and beating the drums of war unabated.”
The group also commended the JNI, Plateau State Chapter, for swiftly disassociating itself from what it described as “a terrible, disgruntled, and outright show of shame.”
“This is a moment for sober reflection and mourning of our brothers who are being killed on a daily basis and the persecution of Christians on the Plateau and other Middle Belt states,” the statement concluded.
