The Kwara State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has unveiled the list of prominent sports personalities nominated for special recognition at its maiden Personality Lecture in honour of the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON.
The event, scheduled for Thursday, 18 December 2025, will hold at the Taiwo Awoniyi Media Sports Media Centre, SWAN Secretariat, George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
This year’s lecture, themed “6 Years of Purposeful Leadership: Rebuilding Institutions, Empowering Athletes, and Positioning Kwara for Sports Excellence,” is designed to spotlight the administration’s investments in sports infrastructure and youth development across the state.
In a statement signed by the Association’s Assistant Secretary, Sodiq Adebara, SWAN confirmed that standout contributors to Kwara’s sports ecosystem, including respected entrepreneur, sports Philanthropist Araba Femi Sanni, have been shortlisted for prestigious honours.
Other nominees—drawn from sports management, athletics, coaching, and media—were selected based on their track record of commitment to sports development and their support for initiatives driving growth in the state.
Veteran broadcaster and former General Manager of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Alhaji Hameed Adio, will headline the programme as Guest Speaker. He is expected to deliver a broad evaluation of Governor AbdulRazaq’s six-year stewardship in sports and outline pathways for sustaining current gains.
Chairman of Kwara SWAN and host of the event, Mallam Ayodeji Ismail, said the Personality Lecture was conceived to deepen collaboration between sports media professionals and key stakeholders shaping the future of sports in the state.
He said the Governor’s nomination for honour was based on his “consistent investment in sports infrastructure, athlete welfare, talent development programmes, and institutional reforms that have strengthened Kwara’s reputation as an emerging sports hub.”
The end-of-year gathering will feature interactive sessions with sports stakeholders and an awards segment recognising individuals and institutions whose excellence and contributions have elevated sports in Kwara.
Top government officials, sports administrators, athletes, and media executives are expected to grace the event
