Farmer Governor Bago Visits Brazil to study sugarcane production techniques
Following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on September 17, the Niger State Governor, Farmer Umaru Bago, his team, and members of Uttham Sucrotech visited Brazil to study sugarcane production techniques as part of the state’s ambitious sugar project.
The team visited about four sugar factories and rice mills, including Serrana near Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, and the Usina da Pedra Group in Brazil, to inspect and carry out on-the-spot assessments of the companies.
The project will occupy 250,000 hectares of sugar plantations and 80,000 tons per day, also, with the capacity to produce sugar, ethanol, power, livestock feeds, etc.
It should be recalled that the Niger State Government formalized an agreement with three companies, Uttham Sucrotech International, Rite Foods Ltd, and Legacy Sugar Company Ltd—for the cultivation and production of sugar.
The MoU signed sets out a 3year plan to establish six sugar mills across the state, with four located between Shiroro and Minna on 148,000 of the 250,000 hectares set aside for the project.
Under the agreement, Uttham Sucrotech will support the project with 110,000 out-growers and diversify production to include by-products such as refined ethanol, power generation, and cattle feed.
