Floods Devastate Kabba Metropolis, Residents Call for Urgent Intervention

A devastating flood has swept through communities in Kabba metropolis, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, displacing families, destroying properties, and killing countless domestic animals.
The disaster, which occurred after heavy downpours, has affected over 500 homes, places of worship, and livestock holdings.
The Idde-Iyah community was among the hardest-hit areas, with Chief Obahunlewo, the Obaladugbo of Ekiri Quarter, losing his home and personal belongings to the floodwaters.
The Source of Life Mountain of Redemption Church also suffered significant damage, with its musical instruments, seating, and church property destroyed.
The flood is estimated to have washed away over 1,500 domestic animals, threatening the livelihood and food security of residents.
The local government has called for urgent intervention from the Kogi State Government, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The affected communities require immediate relief efforts, including provision of shelter, food, medical care, and rebuilding support. Long-term solutions, such as effective drainage infrastructure, flood control systems, and environmental planning, are also necessary to prevent recurrence.
The community stands in solidarity with the affected families and urges all stakeholders to rally support for Kabba/Bunu LGA.
