Amid renewed political tension with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the errors of the 2023 general elections in the state will not be repeated in 2027. The former Rivers governor made the declaration on Tuesday during separate visits to Akuku-Toru and Degema Local Government Areas.
Wike stressed the need for reflection and accountability in politics, noting that leadership demands the courage to admit mistakes and take decisive steps to correct them.
According to him, lessons have been learnt from the last electoral cycle, particularly regarding political strategy and grassroots mobilisation.
“What is important in life is to admit when you make a mistake and tell the people you are ready to correct it. The mistake we made in 2023 will not be repeated,” he said, adding that political alignment and voting patterns in the state would change ahead of 2027.
He further hinted at a strategic realignment, stating that “where we voted in the state is not where we will vote again,” a comment widely interpreted as a signal of shifting loyalties amid the deepening rift between his political camp and the current state administration.
The statement comes shortly after Wike publicly declared his “total support” for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, despite ongoing tensions between him and some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State. Analysts view Wike’s remarks as a clear indication that the political battle for Rivers State ahead of 2027 has already begun, with significant implications for both state and national politics.
