A fuel tanker conveying approximately 50,000 litres of petrol overturned on Sunday at the NEPA Roundabout in Kaduna metropolis, resulting in a tragic incident that claimed two lives.
The accident was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday, February 8, 2026, by the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA).
According to the statement, the driver of the tanker and his assistant lost their lives following an explosion that occurred after the vehicle fell, causing widespread concern among residents and road users in the area.
KADSEMA disclosed that the tanker was heavily loaded at the time of the crash, increasing the risk of a major fire disaster.
In response, the agency swiftly collaborated with security operatives and emergency response teams to cordon off the area, control traffic movement, and closely monitor the evacuation of the spilled fuel to prevent fire outbreaks or further casualties.
The agency noted that the situation was brought under control promptly, averting what could have been a catastrophic incident in the busy part of the city.
