Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso Under Scrutiny
***As Islamic scholar raises concerns over kano’s direction

An Islamic scholar in has expressed grave concerns about the current leadership in Kano State, specifically targeting Governor Abba Yusuf and Rabiu Kwankwaso. The scholar argues that their policies and actions are driving the state towards disaster.
Mallam Isa Ibrahim has alleged that the duo of Governor Abba Yusuf and former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso are not interested in the governance of Kano State but politics.
The cleric accused Governor Yusuf of being a “mere errand boy” for Kwankwaso, suggesting that he is focused on seeking vengeance against perceived political enemies, which undermines peace and development in Kano State.
Recently, while addressing his congregation in Tudun Wada, Kano, Mallam Ibrahim noted that the dangerous politics played by Governor Yusuf and his mentor, Kwankwaso, has brought untold hardship to the state.
“Recently, Kano people were made to watch from the sidelines as other state were celebrating the achievements of their Governors in the last one year. It’s unfortunate that the Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and the power behind the throne, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have chose playing crass politics over provision of good governance,” he lamented.
“Despite the substantial monthly allocations the current administration receives from the federal government, there is no tangible evidence of its impact. The N5 billion palliative released to each state to mitigate the effects of the petrol subsidy removal has not benefited the people of Kano. Instead, Governor Yusuf and his associates have diverted these resources for personal enrichment, favoring their cronies and sponsoring attacks on perceived political opponents.
“To be candid, Governor Yusuf and his mentor Kwankwaso seem more focused on politics than on governing Kano State. From the very start of his administration, the governor has consistently shown this inclination. Upon assuming office, he proceeded with the demolition of shops, businesses, and homes without reviewing government records. This was evidently done because most of these properties were developed during the tenure of his predecessor, Ganduje.”
“One of the popular sayings of Kano people right now is that Governor Yusuf is an errand boy to Kwankwaso. The Governor himself has proved that by appointing godfather’s children into his administration and taking directives from the former Governor. Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso are leading Kano to hell. They have made life a living hell for Kano people. Should Kano people be made to suffer because Kwankwaso lost the 2023 presidential election to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu? Is Kwankwaso’s political ambition worth the sufferings of millions of Kano citizens? Is governance all about political vendetta or provision of basic social amenities?
“One of the popular sayings among the people of Kano right now is that Governor Yusuf is merely an errand boy for Kwankwaso. The Governor himself has confirmed this perception by appointing the children of his political godfather into his administration and consistently taking directives from the former Governor. Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso are steering Kano towards disaster, making life a living hell for its residents.
“Should the people of Kano be made to suffer simply because Kwankwaso lost the 2023 presidential election to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu? Is Kwankwaso’s political ambition worth the hardships endured by millions of Kano citizens? Is governance meant to serve political vendettas or to provide essential social amenities for the people?
“The people of Kano have suffered enough in the hands of Governor Yusuf and his godfather Kwankwaso. Even their party, the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has passed a vote of no confidence on Governor Yusuf. Governor Yusuf should retrace his steps and do the needful. Governance should be the number one priority or agenda on his table as far as Kano state is concerned. He should also remember that no government lasts forever.”
“Even after one year in office, Governor Yusuf continues to blame the past administration for his shortcomings. However, it is his failure to build on the achievements of his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje, that is most evident. The declining standards in education, healthcare services, and the deteriorating infrastructure in Kano are clear indicators of this failure.
“After unsuccessfully attempting to shift blame for his poor performance onto his predecessor with unfounded corruption allegations, Governor Yusuf is now trying to incite an Emirship crisis in the state. This move appears to be a distraction from his significant failures as governor.”
