Abba Kabir Yusuf has declared that the overwhelming endorsement of Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila by stakeholders and supporters across Kano South Senatorial District is a clear indication that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is heading toward a sweeping political victory in the zone and across Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Governor made the declaration during a historic Grand Endorsement Gathering held at the Rano Town Stadium on Monday, where political leaders, traditional stakeholders, youth groups, women associations, and thousands of party supporters converged to formally endorse Senator Kawu Sumaila as the sole APC flag bearer for the district.
The event, which observers described as one of the largest political gatherings in Kano South in recent years, was attended by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), senior APC figures, members of the National Assembly, state executives, local government chairmen, and grassroots mobilizers from the 16 local government areas of Kano South.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf said the endorsement reflected the growing confidence of the people in the APC-led administration and its developmental agenda.
According to the Governor, the endorsement came at a significant moment following the successful reconciliation between Senator Kawu Sumaila and Alhassan Rurum, a development many political analysts believe has further strengthened APC’s unity and electoral chances in Kano South.
Governor Yusuf noted that unity among party leaders remained the foundation for political success, stressing that the renewed cooperation between key political actors would consolidate the party’s dominance in Kano State.
“The people of Kano South have demonstrated political maturity and commitment to continuity, peace, and development. This endorsement is not only for Senator Kawu Sumaila but also a vote of confidence in the APC administration and its vision for a prosperous Kano State,” the Governor stated.
The Governor assured residents that his administration would continue to execute massive developmental projects aimed at improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and youth empowerment across the state.
He revealed that the government had already designed comprehensive empowerment programmes targeted at addressing unemployment and creating economic opportunities for thousands of youths ahead of 2027.
Political observers at the event noted that youth participation was remarkably high, with many young supporters carrying banners promoting the “Kano First” initiative — a slogan the Governor described as a movement dedicated to restoring Kano’s lost glory, reviving moral values, and strengthening social unity.
In a major announcement that drew loud applause from the crowd, Governor Yusuf disclosed that approval had been granted for the conversion of the Rano Rural and Community Development Institute into a Federal Polytechnic of Technology.
He explained that the institution would provide technical and vocational education opportunities for young people in the region and contribute significantly to economic growth and manpower development.
The Governor also announced plans to upgrade the Rano General Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre, a move expected to improve healthcare delivery and reduce medical referrals outside the state.
According to him, the projects are part of broader efforts by the administration to transform Kano South into a major hub for education, healthcare, commerce, and technological advancement.
He further disclosed that the existing infrastructure of the Rano Rural and Community Development Centre would be relocated to Takai Constituency in order to expand educational access and accommodate growing student enrollment.
Governor Yusuf commended party stakeholders, community leaders, and supporters for conducting the endorsement exercise peacefully and orderly, describing the atmosphere as a reflection of political maturity and unity within the APC family.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to working for the success of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates during the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the gathering, Senator Kawu Sumaila expressed gratitude to the people of Kano South for the confidence reposed in him, pledging continued loyalty to Governor Yusuf and the APC leadership.
He promised to intensify efforts toward attracting more federal projects and social intervention programmes to the district.
Similarly, Hon. Alhassan Rurum and Alhassan Doguwa assured the Governor of their unwavering support, emphasizing that Kano South remained fully committed to delivering victory for the APC at all levels.
The event also featured goodwill messages from prominent dignitaries, including the representative of the APC National Chairman, Garba Datti Muhammad; the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure; and the Chairperson of Kano State ALGON, Sa’adatu Salisu Yushau.
Political commentators say the endorsement gathering may reshape the political landscape of Kano South, especially as political alignments and grassroots mobilization intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
The massive turnout, unity among party leaders, and strategic developmental promises announced during the event are already being viewed as strong signals of APC’s determination to retain political dominance in Kano State.
