A non-governmental organisation, Regalo Hope Foundation, has trained over 1,000 students of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO on digital footprint, cloud computing, professional positioning, communication skills among other digital and vocational intelligence.
The training, held at the school weekend, organised in partnership with the FUTO Career Service Centre, had participants of both students and lectures drawn from various departments and faculties of the institution.
Speaking, the group’s Founder/Project Director, Regalo Hope Foundation, Chinenye Onuoha, said the training was designed to create social and economic opportunities for the participants that would help them become productive agents and successful in life.
Onuoha expressed concern over what she described as disturbing rate of unemployed graduates, saying that, “a huge number of students upon graduation are bereft of necessary skills that would enhance their employability.”
She appealed to education stakeholders and the government to prioritize regular extra-curricular and vocational trainings for students especially at higher institutions to enable the students navigate the socio-economic realities after graduation.
Professor at the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Director Career Service Centre at Federal University of Technology Owerri, Thaddeus Ebiringa who gave the key note address at the event, applauded the organizer, while recommending the training to all the students and youths alike.
Prof. Ebiringa urged other NGO and well-meaning individuals to partner with FUTO and other institutions of learning on areas that would empower the students with further skills for bright future life endeavours.
Earlier, Ooreoluwa Abiodun, Partnership and Communications Manager of the group disclosed that the training falled under the Youth Development Workshop and Digital Skills Enhancement Program (REDSEP) of the foundation which began in 2019.
