HON. MUSA OLÚMÁYÒWÁ YAKUB OFFICIALLY DEFECTS TO ADC AMID MAMMOTH CROWD IN HIS HOMETOWN, IYAMOYE, IJUMU LGA, KOGI STATE

The political landscape of Kogi State witnessed a significant and symbolic shift as Hon. Musa Olúmàyòwá Yakubu Former House of representatives aspirant’s in 2019 for kabba/bunu ijumu federal constituency under PDP as well as former candidate for ijumu local government chairman has formally announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid an overwhelming show of support from the people of his hometown, Iyamoye, in Ìjùmú Local Government Area.

The historic event, which attracted a mammoth crowd comprising party loyalists, market and Farmer leaders, youths, women groups, political stakeholders, and supporters from across wards and neighboring communities, marked a defining moment not only in Hon. Yakub’s political journey but also in the evolving political narrative of the district.

Speaking at the well-attended gathering, Hon. Musa Olúmàyòwá Yakub described his decision to join the ADC as a carefully considered step driven by conscience, conviction, and an unwavering commitment to the progress of his people. He emphasized that the ADC represents a platform anchored on fairness, inclusivity, good governance, and people-centered development.

> “My decision to align with the African Democratic Congress is borne out of my desire to serve our people better, to promote unity, and to pursue a political vision that truly reflects the aspirations of our grassroots,” he stated.

 

The defection ceremony turned into a celebration of hope as chants, music, and solidarity marches filled the streets of Iyamoye, underscoring Hon. Yakub’s deep grassroots connection and the trust reposed in him by his constituents. Many supporters described the move as timely and strategic, noting that ADC offers a credible alternative capable of repositioning Kogi State for inclusive development.

Leaders of the ADC present at the event welcomed Hon. Yakub into the party, describing him as a tested leader, a grassroots mobilizer, and a progressive politician whose experience and popularity will strengthen the party’s structure in Ìjùmú LGA and beyond. They expressed confidence that his entry would galvanize support for the party across the Okun axis and the state at large.

Community leaders and youth representatives also took turns to commend Hon. Yakub’s courage and political foresight, pledging their unwavering support and readiness to work with him in building a stronger ADC presence at the grassroots.

Observers have described the defection as a major political realignment that could reshape local power dynamics ahead of future elections. The massive turnout at the event has further reinforced Hon. Musa Olúmàyòwá Yakub’s standing as a leader with formidable grassroots appeal and a strong voice among the people of Iyamoye and Ìjùmú LGA.
