HON. TUNDE AKANMIDU CALLS ON YAGBA TRADITIONAL COUNCIL, ELITES AND STAKEHOLDERS TO RECONCILE DISTINGUISHED SENATOR SUNDAY KARIMI AND RT. HON. LEKE ABEJIDE

“No Political Difference Should Be Allowed to Destroy the Brotherhood That Defines Yagba.”

Hon. Tunde Akanmidu, Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy President of the Senate, has appealed to the Yagba Traditional Council, respected elders, political leaders, and other critical stakeholders to urgently intervene and facilitate reconciliation between Distinguished Senator Sunday Karimi and Rt. Hon. Elder Leke Abejide following the recent public disagreement between the two leaders.

In a statement issued on Monday, Hon. Akanmidu expressed deep concern over the unfortunate development, noting that prolonged political disagreements among prominent leaders could weaken the unity, harmony, and collective progress of Yagba land.

According to him:

“Senator Sunday Karimi and Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide are distinguished sons of Yagba whose individual contributions to the development of our people and Kogi West are widely acknowledged. Their relationship should not be defined by political differences but by the shared responsibility of advancing the interests of our people. No political disagreement should ever be worth sacrificing the brotherhood that binds us together.”

Hon. Akanmidu therefore called on the revered traditional rulers of Yagba, under the leadership of the Yagba Traditional Council, to use their respected offices to convene a peace meeting where both leaders can engage in sincere dialogue, foster mutual understanding, and restore the cordial relationship that has long existed between them.

He further urged political associates, aides, social media handlers, supporters, and well-wishers of both leaders to exercise restraint by avoiding inflammatory comments, personal attacks, and divisive rhetoric capable of escalating tensions.

According to him, responsible leadership requires every stakeholder to become a promoter of peace rather than an agent of discord.

Hon. Akanmidu also cautioned against allowing external interests or political opportunists to exploit the situation for personal gain, stressing that the unity and stability of Yagba must always take precedence over individual ambitions or temporary political differences.

“The unity of Yagba is far greater than the ambitions of any individual. History teaches us that communities flourish when their leaders stand together despite their differences. Let us therefore choose dialogue over confrontation, reconciliation over resentment, and peace over division. Future generations will remember us not for our disagreements but for our ability to rise above them in the interest of our people.”

He concluded by praying for divine wisdom for both leaders, continued peace across Yagba land, and sustained progress for Kogi West, Kogi State, and Nigeria as a whole.

Signed:
Hon. Tunde Akanmidu
Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy President of the Senate
