The Kano State Government has demonstrated a strong commitment to unity, solidarity, and the preservation of long-standing ties among Northern states by dispatching a high-powered delegation to Sokoto State to condole with the Sultanate Council, the government, and the family of the late Sardaunan Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji.

The delegation conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, following the passing of one of the region’s respected traditional title holders whose contributions to community development, Islamic values, and the preservation of cultural heritage earned him admiration across Northern Nigeria.

Leading the delegation was the Deputy Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the Emir of Rano, His Royal Highness Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umar, the State APC Chairman, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hajiya Aisha Lawan Saji, and other senior government officials.

The delegation first visited the residence of the late Sardaunan Sokoto, where they offered prayers for the repose of his soul and conveyed Governor Yusuf’s message of sympathy to the bereaved family.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the family, the deceased’s first son, Aminu Abubakar Alhaji, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Yusuf and the people of Kano State for standing with them during their period of grief. He described the visit as a comforting gesture that reflects the enduring bond between the two states and the shared values that unite their people.

The delegation later proceeded to the Palace of the Sultan of Sokoto, where they formally delivered Governor Yusuf’s condolences to His Eminence, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.

In his remarks, the Sultan thanked Governor Yusuf for the thoughtful gesture, noting that such acts of compassion reinforce the historic relationship among the people of Northern Nigeria. He stressed that moments of mourning provide opportunities for leaders and communities to strengthen mutual understanding, solidarity, and collective responsibility.

The delegation also visited the Sokoto State Government House, where they were received by the Deputy Governor and the Secretary to the State Government. During the visit, Governor Yusuf’s condolences were formally conveyed to the government and the people of Sokoto State, with prayers for strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Governor Yusuf, in his condolence message, described the late Sardaunan Sokoto as a distinguished elder statesman and respected community leader whose life was dedicated to selfless service, peacebuilding, and the promotion of Islamic teachings and traditional institutions. He noted that the deceased’s legacy would continue to inspire generations of leaders across Northern Nigeria.

The Governor prayed that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of the late Sardaunan Sokoto, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and comforts his family, the Sultanate Council, friends, associates, and the entire people of Sokoto State.
The condolence visit once again underscores the importance of intergovernmental cooperation and the enduring role of traditional institutions in promoting peace, unity, and social cohesion across Nigeria. It also reflects the longstanding historical relationship between Kano and Sokoto, two influential states whose cultural and religious institutions have continued to play vital roles in fostering harmony and national development.

The Kano State Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening these historic ties while standing in solidarity with the people of Sokoto during this difficult period of mourning.
