Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has firmly dismissed widespread social media reports suggesting that he has defected to the New Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the claims as false, malicious and politically motivated.
Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, declared that he remains a committed member of the APC and has no intention of abandoning the ruling party. In a strong metaphor, he said he is “not a vulture flying from one tree to another,” stressing that his political career has always been guided by principle, loyalty and consistency rather than personal convenience or ambition.
His position was contained in a statement issued by his former Commissioner for Information and Chief of Staff, Comrade Muhammad Garba, who described the circulation of fake defection posters on social media as a calculated campaign of misinformation aimed at misleading the public, creating confusion among APC members and fueling unnecessary political speculation.
According to the statement, Ganduje has remained unwavering in his political convictions and has never contemplated leaving the APC, a party he served diligently as its National Chairman. It maintained that suggestions linking him to the NDC were not only false but lacked any political or logical basis.
The former APC National Chairman emphasized that the APC remains Nigeria’s largest and most formidable political party, enjoying growing national acceptance while consolidating its leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the party and contributing to the success of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement further described those behind the fake posters as desperate political mischief-makers determined to tarnish Ganduje’s reputation and sow discord within the ruling party. It disclosed that the individuals responsible for producing and circulating the materials had been identified.
Ganduje warned that unless the perpetrators immediately withdraw the defamatory posters and discontinue their circulation, appropriate legal action would be instituted against them in accordance with the law.
He urged APC members, supporters and the general public to disregard the posters entirely, insisting that they do not represent his political position, intentions or future plans.
The statement also advised the public to rely only on official communications from Dr. Ganduje and the appropriate organs of the APC regarding matters relating to his political activities.
Political observers believe the clarification comes amid increasing political realignments and speculation ahead of future electoral contests, with several politicians across party lines being linked to possible defections. However, Ganduje’s latest declaration appears to put to rest rumours surrounding his political future, reaffirming his loyalty to the APC and his continued support for President Tinubu’s administration.
