In a bold move aimed at alleviating the suffering of its members and cushioning the effects of Nigeria’s harsh economic realities, the Kaaro Ojire Yoruba Community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has rolled out empowerment packages for members in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The event, tagged “Our Empowerment Programme and Endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a Second Term, with the Conferment of Chieftaincy Titles on the FCT Minister, His Excellency Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, and Others,” was held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Gaduwa Garden, Garki Area 1, Abuja.
The ceremony attracted recipients of the chieftaincy titles, their representatives, members of the organisation, and other well-meaning Nigerians resident in the nation’s capital.
As part of the empowerment programme, more than 500 members of the Kaaro Ojire Yoruba Community in AMAC received ₦50,000 each, along with food items. The organisation also distributed medical equipment and drugs after a health awareness session during which experts delivered lectures on the detection, management, and control of high blood pressure and diabetes.
The socio-cultural organisation also formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office, declaring its total support for his re-election and pledging 95 per cent of its votes for him in the forthcoming general election.
In addition, the group conferred chieftaincy titles on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the FCT Senatorial District in the 2027 National Assembly elections.
Speaking with journalists, the Chairman of Kaaro Ojire in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Abdulateef Musbaudeen Oladimeji, said the empowerment initiative was designed to provide relief for underprivileged members affected by the country’s economic challenges.
He explained that the programme reflected the organisation’s core values of love, empathy, unity, and mutual support.
Oladimeji commended members and leaders across the various Area Councils for their contributions toward the success of the programme. He particularly praised the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prince Dr. Shittu Ayo, for his generosity, selfless service, and unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the Kaaro Ojire Yoruba Community in the FCT.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prince Dr. Shittu Ayo, described the endorsement of President Tinubu as a demonstration of the organisation’s confidence in and support for his leadership.
According to him, the ongoing infrastructural development across the country, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory, justified the group’s decision to support the President’s continuity in office. He added that sustained investment in infrastructure would stimulate economic growth and enhance national prosperity.
One of the elders of the organisation, Alhaji Adebari Saheed Adesina, said the chieftaincy title conferred on the FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, was in recognition of his support for President Tinubu’s administration and his contributions to the development of the nation’s capital.
Adesina described Wike as a steadfast pillar of support for the Tinubu administration, noting that the minister had remained loyal despite political challenges. He said the Yoruba community considered it fitting to honour him with the title “Igi Lẹ́yìn Ọgbà Yoruba FCT,” meaning “The Backbone of the Yoruba Community in the Federal Capital Territory,” in appreciation of his contributions and support.
