Kabba/Bunu Council Chairman Sends Delegation to Assess Flood Damage, Reaffirms Commitment to Relief Efforts

In a proactive response to the recent flood disaster that ravaged communities in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman of Kabba/Bunu LGA, Hon. (Barr.) Zaccheus Dare Michael, has dispatched a delegation to visit and assess the level of damage across affected areas.

The delegation, led by Hon. Olorunsaye Sunday (Regards), the Chairman of All APC Ward Chairmen in Kabba/Bunu, was received by distressed residents who are still reeling from the aftermath of the torrential flood that destroyed over 500 homes, churches, and washed away over 1,500 domestic animals, including goats, sheep, and poultry.

During the visit, Hon. Olorunsaye Sunday expressed deep sympathy on behalf of the council chairman and the entire leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kabba/Bunu. He noted that the tragedy is not only heartbreaking but also demands swift and sustained action from both government and development partners.

> “We are here on behalf of the Executive Chairman to stand with you in this moment of pain. The local government is fully aware of the extent of the damage, and efforts are ongoing to reach the appropriate state and federal agencies, especially NEMA and Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA), for urgent support,” he stated.

The delegation visited some of the worst-hit areas including Idde-Iyah, where community leader and retired police officer, Chief Obahunlewo, lost his entire home and personal belongings. They also inspected the destroyed Source of Life Mountain of Redemption Church (Abosede), where all church property was swept away by the flood.

The chairman, through the delegation, reassured affected residents that their welfare remains a top priority and that relief efforts will be coordinated in collaboration with higher authorities. He emphasized that Kabba/Bunu cannot face this alone, and called on NGOs, faith-based organizations, corporate bodies, and kind-hearted individuals to support the affected communities.

Furthermore, the chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to pursuing long-term preventive measures, including proper environmental management, construction of durable drainage systems, and public awareness on disaster preparedness.

> “This is a moment that calls for unity, compassion, and swift action. Together, we will rebuild our communities stronger than before,” Hon. Olorunsaye Sunday concluded on behalf of the chairman.
