Kaduna APC at a Crossroads: How Internal Crisis and Grassroots Alienation Could Jeopardize 2026 Elections.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State is facing a growing internal crisis that, if left unaddressed, may significantly weaken the party’s chances in the 2026 general elections.
At the heart of this crisis is rising discontent among party members, particularly in Kaduna North, driven by allegations of poor leadership style, exclusion, and intimidation within the party structure.
Political observers and party stakeholders warn that the situation could spiral into a full-blown collapse of the APC’s unity in the state unless urgent corrective steps are taken by the party’s leadership, especially His Excellency, Governor Malam Uba Sani.
One of the most alarming developments within the Kaduna APC is the increasing rate of decampment of loyal party members to opposition parties. Grassroots mobilizers, ward executives, elders, and even long-standing stakeholders are reportedly leaving the party out of frustration rather than ideological disagreement.
Investigations by Democracy Newsline reveal that much of this disaffection is linked to the conduct of the Honorable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos. Many party members perceive the commissioner as arrogant, dismissive of internal dissent, and intolerant of opposing views within the APC family.
The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs plays a strategic role in grassroots politics—the very foundation upon which electoral victories are built. Control of this ministry requires tact, humility, and inclusiveness. Unfortunately, stakeholders allege that instead of uniting party members at the grassroots, the ministry has become a source of division.
Party elders and loyalists complain of intimidation, victimization, and exclusion from political processes. Such actions, whether intentional or perceived, weaken party cohesion and alienate the very people responsible for mobilizing votes during elections.
APC’s strength in Kaduna has historically depended on internal discipline, respect for party ideology, and collective ownership of political success. When party members begin to feel treated as enemies rather than family, the consequences are predictable: loss of trust, fragmentation, and eventual electoral defeat.
With the 2027 elections approaching, APC cannot afford internal conflicts—especially those originating from a ministry meant to strengthen grassroots governance. Opposition parties are already capitalizing on this discontent, welcoming defectors and exploiting APC’s internal weaknesses.
As the leader of APC in Kaduna State, His Excellency Governor Malam Uba Sani carries the moral and political responsibility to address these issues decisively. His reputation for wisdom, calm leadership, and commitment to unity gives party members hope that this situation can still be salvaged.
There is an urgent need for the governor to intervene, call the concerned commissioner to order, and remind all appointees that public office is a trust—one that must reflect the values of inclusiveness, respect, and service to the party and the people.
At the national level, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to emphasize unity, reconciliation, and internal democracy within the APC as key strategies for electoral success. It would be counterproductive for actions at the state level to undermine this broader vision, especially through internal conflicts fueled by individuals entrusted with powerful offices.
The people of Kaduna State expect strong, fair, and unifying leadership. APC members want to be treated as stakeholders, not adversaries. If corrective measures are not taken swiftly, the party risks continued loss of loyal members and diminished electoral strength in 2026.
Now is the time for Governor Malam Uba Sani to act—by restoring internal harmony, reinforcing party ideology, and ensuring that every APC member in Kaduna State feels respected, heard, and valued.
Party unity is not optional; it is essential for victory.
