A prominent political group in Kano State, the APC Ambassadors from the 44 Local Governments, has called on the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, to formally declare his intention to run for the Kano State governorship seat in the 2027 general elections.
The call was made in a strongly worded communique issued at the end of the group’s general meeting held in Kano. The meeting brought together a wide representation of the group’s leadership, including state and zonal executives, coordinators from all 44 local government areas, and chairmen of all 484 wards across the state.
The communique, signed by Hon. Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu, former Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Kano State and current State Chairman of the APC Ambassadors, emphasized the urgent need for transformative leadership in Kano.
“Given the prevailing conditions and in our collective quest for a renewed and prosperous Kano, the APC Ambassadors 44 local governments of Kano State has resolved to endorse the candidacy of Senator Barau I. Jibrin for the 2027 governorship election,” the group stated.
They described Senator Barau Jibrin as a seasoned administrator and a symbol of experience and vision, saying his leadership is essential to restoring dignity, order, and development in Kano.
“The time has come for true leadership to emerge in Kano—one rooted in service, experience, and a clear vision for a modern, united, and prosperous state,” the communique declared.
The APC Ambassadors, a grassroots movement comprising vibrant and patriotic party loyalists, conducted what they described as a “rigorous political review” of the current state of affairs in Kano since the 2023 elections, which brought Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP to power.
According to the group, the current administration has failed to meet the expectations of the people, accusing it of “administrative incompetence, disregard for the rule of law, and a troubling erosion of democratic culture.”
The communique also highlighted specific grievances, including the controversial demolitions that displaced numerous traders and business owners, poor management of state resources, a lack of meaningful infrastructural development, and rising insecurity across the state.
“Kano, once a shining star of political maturity and grassroots development, has sadly become a textbook example of retrogressive governance under the NNPP-led government,” the communique added.
The APC Ambassadors warned that continued stagnation would deepen the socio-economic challenges faced by the people, especially the youth, whom they say have been sidelined in policymaking and economic planning.
In a bold prediction, the group stated that a gubernatorial bid by Senator Barau Jibrin would not only galvanize support across party lines but could also deliver a “landslide victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Kano State” during the next national elections.
Reaffirming their allegiance to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, the group urged all Kano youths—regardless of ethnic or religious background—to unite behind a new vision for the state.
“We must not allow the state to remain in the hands of political opportunists whose governance is rooted in vendetta, incompetence, and democratic sabotage. The future of Kano depends on bold, informed choices.”
The communique concluded with a passionate appeal to Senator Barau:
“We therefore call on Senator Barau Jibrin to accede to the yearnings of the people of Kano State and declare his ambition. Kano needs you, and history beckons.”
As Kano’s political landscape begins to heat up in anticipation of 2027, this declaration by the APC Ambassadors could mark a defining moment in the state’s political realignment and a rallying point for opposition voices seeking to reclaim leadership.
